About

The Involvement Online is an online magazine from The Heritage Area Agency on Aging.

Heritage is one over 600 Area Agencies on Aging nationwide and one of only six (6) in Iowa. Authorized by the Older Americans Act of 1965 (revised), Area Agencies on Aging are agencies established under federal law to respond to the needs of Americans age 60 and over in every local community, with the goal of keeping seniors living independently in their own homes.

The Heritage Agency has been a department of Kirkwood Community College since 1973 and was designated by the Iowa Department on Aging to serve Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties.  Heritage plans, funds, and coordinates a variety of human service program that serve the 78,798 older adults who reside in the seven county region (2010 US Census).

Heritage serves people age 60 and above as well as their families, communities, and governments.  In addition, The Heritage Agency serves as an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) serving adults 18 years of age and older with a disability through advocacy and options counseling.
