Vote Safely During COVID-19
The safest way to vote during a pandemic is by mail. Our friends at the Iowa Association of Area Agencies on Aging (i4a) put together an easy, step-by-step guide for voting by mail in Iowa this election cycle.
They have created two versions of the flyer: a digital version that includes links to relevant websites, and a handout version designed to print out and distribute to friends and neighbors. Click on the buttons to open the different file types:
Links to the web pages of County Auditors and their phone numbers are provided at the bottom of this post.
Because scammers are expected to try to use the election to take advantage of older adults, follow this tip: If you receive a call for more information about your ballot, tell them you will call back at the official phone number.
The steps in i4a’s guide are:
Are you registered to vote? Contact your County Auditor/Election Commissioner to confirm that you are registered.
If You Are Not Registered: Request a Registration Form from your County Auditor/Election Commissioner
Request an Absentee Ballot: Call your County Auditor and request that an absentee ballot be sent to your home address. Requests for the upcoming election must be made before Oct. 24, 2020. Know the name or date of the election for which you are requesting the ballot. This fall’s election is the General Election on November 3, 2020.
Complete the Absentee Ballot Request Form: Follow the instructions carefully and completely. Sign and date the form.
Complete & Return the Ballot: Follow the ballot instructions carefully to ensure your vote will count. Mail your ballot to your County Auditor before Monday, November 2, 2020.
