If disaster struck right now, would you be ready? Not ready to grab some granola bars on your way to seek shelter in the basement, but really ready to deal with the aftermath?

September is National Preparedness Month, promoting family and community disaster planning. This topic is top-of-mind in the Heritage AAA region as we continue recovering from last month’s derecho.

So where do you even begin? Everything happened so fast after the derecho that it’s easy to forget the little mental notes we made for next time.

But don’t worry! We’ve got your back: below are links to a variety of checklists and forms to help with your disaster preparedness, courtesy of our friends at Disaster PrepWise and The American Red Cross.

  • The PrepWise file is a compilation of several documents, each of which helps you be prepared in a different way. It includes checklists, forms to fill out for first responders and more. Learn more about PrepWise by clicking here.

  • The American Red Cross files are sorted by the type of disaster because each scenario can have its own unique demands. They include tips and checklists for before and after a disaster.

Make sure to take a look at all of these resources and see what best fits your current situation. Depending on how prepared you already are, the best solution is probably finding your own combination of resources from what’s below.

As we saw last month, disaster can strike with little warning. Make sure to take time today to prepare for a better tomorrow.
