Jennifer Smentek, Veterans Affairs Family Caregiver Program
Nicole Kehres is the Director of Linn County Veterans Affairs and recently retired from the United States Air Force Reserve with 20+ years of honorable military service. She has deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She has completed various leadership courses and has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Applied Management. Kehres worked as an Accredited Veterans Service Officer for more than ten years in the state of Ohio prior to becoming the Veterans Affairs Director for Linn County.
Jennifer Smentek, LISW, is the Acting Social Work Executive and Caregiver Support Program Manager for the Iowa City VA Health Care System. She has been with the VA since 2008 and has held several social work roles including OEF/OIF/OND Case Manager, PACT Social Worker, and Supervisor of the Iowa City VA’s Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program. She has over 22 years’ experience as a professional Social Worker and prior to joining the VA has practiced in mental health, substance abuse, and dialysis. Ms. Smentek earned her MSW from the University of Iowa and has a BA from Cornell College.
