Tim Getty Named to National Meals on Wheels Committee
The nutrition team at Heritage Area Agency on Aging is making noise on a national stage. We know what you’re thinking: “Again??” Yes, again!
From awards and recognition to innovative grants, the Regional Nutrition Program has a habit of being heard across the country. Honors continued to roll in at the start of 2022, as Tim Getty, Regional Nutrition Coordinator, was named to a national advisory committee for Meals on Wheels of America.
The Senior Nutrition Services Member Advisory Committee is comprised of representatives from 10 Meals on Wheels member organizations across the United States. Getty was invited to join the committee for 2022, becoming the only representative from Iowa and 1-of-2 from the entire Midwest.
The committee will advise Meals on Wheels of America (or MOWA) as it develops trainings, new programs and other innovative features. Having input from service providers like Getty brings an important perspective to the table.
“This is a pretty cool opportunity for Heritage to have a voice at the national level with a well-known, highly-respected organization,” said Getty. “They see the success we’re having with MOWA programs and beyond with congregate dining, Encore Café and more. I’m excited to help share those successes with programs all across the U.S. and to learn from others about ways we can keep growing, too.”
This is the latest in a series of nationwide honors and awards for the Heritage nutrition staff. Within the last few years alone:
Getty was named a 2020 Trailblazer in Aging by the National Council on Aging
Encore Café earned a 2019 Aging Innovations Award from USAging
Getty was also invited to serve on the Meals on Wheels of America Pet Advisory Committee
Heritage was awarded MOWA grants for Encore Express and the TAILS program for pets
Heritage has multiple top-place finishes in the Subaru Share the Love Event fundraiser benefitting MOWA member organizations
The year is young, so who knows what else our King of Cuisine and the nutrition team will cook up in the coming months. We’re certain their services – and the entire menu of support available at Heritage – will maintain eastern Iowa as the optimal place to grow old.
