2020 Farmers’ Market Checks Now Available
June often marks the opening of many area farmers’ markets. It also marks the beginning of the annual Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and administered by Heritage Area Agency on Aging.
This popular program is open to seniors age 60 and older who have an income of less than $23,606 for individuals or $31,894 for couples. Check sets are available starting today, June 1, for the 2020 season on a first-come-first-served basis.
The checks come in books of ten $3 checks ($30 total) and are redeemable at participating area farmers’ markets and vendors, Community Supported Agriculture events and farm stands.
Program applications and check sets are available through several distribution locations throughout eastern Iowa. Heritage Area Agency on Aging is hosting distribution events on Tuesdays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (4700 Johnson Ave NW, Cedar Rapids) and on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Marion Public Library’s large parking lot.
For the distribution site nearest you or for questions about the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program, please contact Bryan Bruner at Heritage Area Agency on Aging at 319-249-8749.
