Geneva Tower Dining Site to End Operations

Heritage Area Agency on Aging announced today the senior dining program at Geneva Tower in Cedar Rapids will end operations after service on May 9, 2024. Residents received notification earlier this week.

The closure is due to compliance with federal and state funding allocated to serve adults ages 60 and older. Demographics of residents and dining site participants at Geneva have shifted away from older adults in the past several months. This decision, while difficult, is made in the interest of being ethical and effective stewards of Heritage AAA’s funding.

Heritage AAA awarded a contract for the program to Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, to deliver the program for the past 21 months and worked closely with Horizons to arrive at this decision. Heritage AAA is thankful for this partnership, which carries on via other local dining sites and Meals on Wheels.

All other Heritage AAA programs and services remain available to residents at Geneva Tower, as they are to any older adult in east-central Iowa. Heritage AAA will help connect residents to nutrition programs as needed, including nearby dining sites and those operated by other local agencies.
