The Heritage Area Agency on Aging, the Agency for Eastern Iowa, is pleased to announce the launch of LifeLong Links™, a statewide service for aging Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, veterans and their caregivers as they begin to plan for long-term independent living.

Subaru’s seventh “Share the Love” event supports eastern Iowa’s seniors

The Heritage Agency is proud to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s seventh annual “Share the Love” event. During the event held from November 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015, Subaru of America, Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which The Heritage Agency is a member.

The Iowa Department on Aging received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to prevent falls by at-risk Iowans, a leading cause of injury-related emergency room visits and deaths for Iowans aged 65 or older.

"Increasing the variety and availability of evidence-based fall prevention programs throughout the state is key to reducing the number of fall-related injuries and deaths among older Iowans and Iowans with disabilities," said Iowa Department on Aging Director Donna Harvey.

Task Force Members Needed

Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to real change at the grassroots level?  Volunteer to be an ambassador for your county!  Citizen efforts are vital in these changing and uncertain funding times, and you will have the honor of representing older adults and people living with a disability in your region.

Rescheduled Bidders Conference Announced for Feb. 6th

The Bidders Conference has been rescheduled for Friday, February 6, 2015 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. It will be held at The Heritage Agency, East Building, Conference Room, Kirkwood Community College Main Campus, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.  This training opportunity to complete the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 RFP application for Heritage funding was rescheduled from the originally announced date of February 2, 2015 due to severe weather.  Please call the Heritage office at (319) 398-5559 or email for more information.

Bidders Conference for Feb. 2nd Postponed

Due to severe weather and the closure of Kirkwood Community College and all locations on Monday, February 2, 2015, the Bidders Conference for organizations and services providers interested in Heritage funding for the Fiscal Years of 2016-2017 and as previously announced via public notice and on the website, will be cancelled.  A make up date will be announced as soon as possible via the website.  For more information, please contact The Heritage Agency at 319-398-5559.  Thank you.

Wal-Mart donates $30,000 to the Fill the Plate Telethon

Wal-Mart has made a significant additional contribution that helped set an all-time fund raising record for the Fill the Plate Telethon that helps support home delivered meals for home bound seniors in east central Iowa.  Hosted at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids in December and broadcasted on KCRG 9.2, Wal-Mart had already given a $2,000 contribution, but earlier this week corporate officials announced that it has made an additional donation of $30,000 to the Fill-the-Plate telethon

            Iowa seniors have reported that scammers are working hard to steal personal information by calling about “new” Medicare cards and “better benefits.”  The scam theme is about improved benefits coming for your Medicare or supplemental insurance, if you give personal information like your Medicare number, other insurance ID number, doctor’s name or drugstore location.
