“Fill the Plate” Telethon to Help Feed Older Adults
The Heritage Area Agency on Aging is hoping the public dials in to help feed at-risk older adults in eastern Iowa. Heritage is excited to announce the return of the Fill the Plate telethon to bring greater support and awareness for its Senior Nutrition Home Delivered and Congregate Meal program. Last year’s telethon raised over $105,000 to help provide nutritious meals to older adults throughout eastern Iowa.
The Heritage Agency’s Elder Abuse Prevention and Awareness Program’s Elder Rights Specialists can help individuals age 60 and older who are victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation by presenting options to improve their quality of life, while reducing risk and/or eliminating the abusive situation.
It's officially National Family Caregivers Month and we want you to help spread the word about the 2014 theme, "Care Comes Home." This theme focuses on the care provided by unpaid friends and family within the home and community.
The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman is seeking volunteers for its new Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP). The VOP wishes to place 1-2 volunteers in every nursing facility, residential care facility, and elder group home in Iowa.
The Older Iowans Legislature met in legislative session in the House Chamber of the Iowa Capitol on Monday September 29 and Tuesday September 30. The annual meeting of the Older Iowans Legislature was convened on Tuesday September 30 after the adjournment of the legislative session.
Seventeen (17) bills were debated by the Older Iowans Legislature, first in committees on Monday September 29 and then on the House floor on Tuesday September 30. Bills that were enacted on the House floor on Tuesday were prioritized by each of the Representatives.
