The Heritage Area Agency on Aging Partners with Dave Wright Subaru to “Share the Love”

Subaru’s “Share the Love” event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to seniors throughout East Central Iowa

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (March 28, 2014) – The Heritage Area Agency on Aging is proud to announce that its partnership with Dave Wright Subaru during the Fill the Plate effort, has received national recognition. The Heritage Area Agency on Aging’s Regional Senior Nutrition Program received one of the first place awards in the “Share the Love” campaign. This support, in the amount of $15,000 will be used to fund some of the meals that were eliminated in wake of the recent 5% reduction in available funding to provide nutritious meals to our region’s most at-risk older adults. The Subaru and Fareway Food Stores “Share the Love/Stuff the Subaru” Food Drive and the Fill the Plate Telethon held this past December, raised community awareness and provided vital financial support to local seniors in need. This local effort is part of the Meals On Wheels Association of America’s participation in the national Subaru of America, Inc. “Share the Love” event, designed as a way for Subaru dealers to give back to their local communities.  The Subaru “Share the Love” event took place from November 21, 2013 to January 2, 2014. Subaru is donating $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during “Share the Love” to the customer's choice of charity, including Meals On Wheels.

“ I cannot begin to thank Subaru of America, Inc. and Dave Wright Subaru for their tremendous support of the Heritage Senior Nutrition Program and Meals on Wheels. This funding could not have come at a better time, as our local program is facing unprecedented challenges in the amount of voluntary contributions to support this vital program and the increasing need of home delivered meals.”, said Tim Getty, Nutrition Coordinator for the Heritage Agency.

The Heritage Agency, a department of Kirkwood Community College since 1971, works to plan, fund and advocate for older adults, their families and caregivers in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties. For more information, call 319-398-5559 or visit
