Subaru’s seventh “Share the Love” event supports eastern Iowa’s seniors
The Heritage Agency is proud to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its participation in Subaru of America’s seventh annual “Share the Love” event. During the event held from November 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015, Subaru of America, Inc. donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer’s choice of participating charities, including Meals on Wheels America, of which The Heritage Agency is a member.
“ This extremely generous contribution will enable The Heritage Agency to continue its efforts to provide sustainability to this vital program that so many frail and at-risk older adults so desperately need to remain happy, healthy and safe in their homes for as long as possible.”, Jill Gleason, Interim Executive Director.
The Heritage Agency partnered with Dave Wright Subaru during the 2014 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior isolation and hunger in eastern Iowa, through the local “Fill the Plate” effort, held the first weekend of December 2014. This collaborative effort began the weekend with a “Stuff the Subaru”/Fareway Food Store food drive on Saturday, December 6th and culminated in a four hour live telethon, held on Sunday, December 7th.
“We greatly appreciate Subaru’s ongoing commitment to Meals on Wheels through its annual ‘Share the Love’ event,” said Ellie Hollander, Meals on Wheels America President and CEO. “Subaru of America and its local retailers across the country have truly become an extension of the Meals on Wheels family. Even long after this event concludes, Subaru helps us to deliver that warm meal, friendly smile and vital safety check that are so vital to millions of America’s seniors.”
This year’s “Fill the Plate” effort resulted in record smashing success. The “Stuff the Subaru” drive brought in over $13,000 in food supplies and the telethon resulted in over $93,000 in cash that will go directly to provide nutritious meals and vital safety checks to the most at-risk, rural, and economically challenged older adults in our region.
"Subaru, our retailers, and our owners feel good about giving to organizations like Meals on Wheels, and that’s why we do the Subaru “Share the Love” event,” said Brian Cavallucci, Subaru of America’s National Advertising Manager. “Subaru is honored to have donated more than $8.4 million to Meals on Wheels over the past seven years, making a positive impact in local communities and the lives of our elderly loved ones.”
