12th Annual Caregiver Wellness Day on Nov. 6th

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging Sponsors the 12th Annual Celebration of Caregivers on November 6th event to honor and support caregivers

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging is hosting its 12th annual caregiver wellness day event in order to support and encourage caregivers of older adults in East Central Iowa. “Caring for the Caregiver” is a free all-day event driven towards supporting the wellbeing of caregivers and promoting self-care through various therapeutic activities. A celebration of caregivers is occurring this November as part of National Family Caregivers Month and The Heritage Area Agency on Aging’s ongoing commitment to the caregivers of older adults.

This year, we are offering a restorative approach with emphasis on caring for the caregiver. Participants will have a chance to rejuvenate with massage therapy offered throughout the day, indulge in a complimentary breakfast and lunch, enjoy knowledgeable guest speakers, including an inspirational and witty keynote presenter, Mike Parker. Along with this, participants will have access to various local resources, and network among individualized small groups focusing on therapeutic outlets such as art and music therapy, holistic health, and a stress relieving forum.

For those who are interested, health screenings and flu shots will be available. Along with this, free respite care is offered by The Villages in Marion.  Please call Lejla Ford of The Heritage Area Agency on Aging at (319) 398-5559 to arrange this service.

This event is at no cost to caregivers and will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 beginning at 9 a.m., at the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Service Center (KTOS), 3375 Armar Drive, in Marion.

Registration is necessary.  Please contact Lejla Ford, Resource & Caregiver Support Program coordinator, at 319-398-5559 to register and/or receive more information regarding the event.

The Heritage Area Agency on Aging wishes to extend a special thank you to our sponsors, for helping to make this day possible.
